Vulnerability is not a shame..!!
If you organize your life around your passion, You can turn your passion into your story and then turn your stress story into a 𝑆𝑈𝐶𝐶𝐸𝑆𝑆 𝑆𝑇𝑂𝑅𝑌 !!!
It took me a while to share this story of vulnerability, struggle, fight and ultimate success. I wasn’t really willing to share it before because I don’t want to appear weak and exposed but then I watched that #TEDtalk which says Vulnerability is not a shame. instead, it takes an act of courage to be vulnerable.
As a Personal Development Coach, I believe in continuous self-growth. For me, the past couple of years have been a journey of self-discovery and learning new things every day. While doing Transformational Leadership Coaching Certification in Hong Kong; I realised that understanding business leadership in its essence is vital to succeeding in the training and coaching industry. I looked for Scholarship opportunities and that’s when I found Shizenkan University, Tokyo, Japan. Of course, it was tough to get one. But my past experience and my passion to learn and growing helped me convince my Sponsors to support me.
I, therefore, pursued a Master of Business Administration in Leadership and Societal Innovation at Shizenkan. It’s a one-of-a-kind Leadership program; made up of “Whole person Management leaders”; with a unique blend of Western Business studies and Eastern Philosophy. Studying in an internationally diverse class of 40 students from 36 different nationalities, including skilled professionals from famous MNCs to diplomats and Entrepreneurs, I have gained huge knowledge and experience. Honestly speaking, coming from Pakistan with a master’s in Psychology, it wasn’t a piece of cake to compete with these highly tech-savvy executives. I suffered frustration, stress, pressure and burnout. Just three months before presenting my Final Project, due to acute distress, I was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. (Yes, similar to one #justinbiber is currently suffering from…!!). I couldn’t study, couldn’t blink, couldn’t even speak. Doctor asked me for complete bed rest. I was asked by the University to drop off, and repeat the second year in Fall of 2022.
~~~ Just 90 days to go, and I am bedridden…!!
That was the toughest time for my commitment and resilience. Thanks to Myself, I did not give up on my passion. I covered my room walls with post-it notes. “Grades don’t matter, but I must PASS…!! I can pass… Yes, I can Pass… I WILL PASS..!!” I studied harder than ever before and was blessed with Allah’s greatest will.
I not only outperformed in this amazing group of peak professionals but have also proudly scored “#Leadership #Distinction” which is awarded to only the top 5 students of the class. I also hold two honor awards, for being the ONLY Female and only South Asian to be selected for Leadership Distinction. While speaking at the Final Conference as a Leader representative, with Mic in my hand, presenting my Social Enterprise Project, and my elite classmates cheering me up, I could not prevent the corners of my eyes from getting wet. I’m truly convinced that Hard work does pay off. I am a living example of it…!!
International Degree has an opportunity cost, but pursuing it during a global pandemic, and with this extreme diagnosis, takes the test of fortitude, patience, resilience and self-discipline to a whole new level. It wasn’t easy, but the unique perspectives that I have gained during this time are invaluable. Undoubtedly, they were the toughest and the best two years of my life.
I am grateful to Allah Almighty for this success and I believe I have so much to give back to society. I am truly focused to make a positive impact by supporting and uplifting the personal development and growth of humanity. With Empathy, Perseverance and a Growth Mindset, I am committed to keeping a learning mind and promoting the same. I thank every single one who supported me in this journey. And this certainly includes “ME”.
I am here to help, support, and promote anyone out there who is struggling with life and want to achieve their dreams. Today I wear my best smile and my best self. I learned it with my own experience and I am ready to teach the same with whole my heart.
So much more to experience & achieve as I believe; “Success is a journey and not the destination!!!”
